HydroScape Analytics

Water Resource Optimization and Conservation

At HydroScape Analytics, we build and utilize advanced models to analyze hydrologic effects of management decisions. We specialize in developing biophysical-resource allocation models, integrating them into reliable hydrologic model frameworks, and using Decision Support Systems to identify optimal management strategies for our clients.

Providing Solutions to Water Resource Challenges

Irrigation Efficiency and Consumptive Use

  • Irrigation efficiency modeling to determine water losses, and return flow contribution and reuse.
  • Determination of consumptive use at field scale from irrigation and conveyance using OpenET.

Water Markets and Resource Optimization

  • Modeling resource optimization and economic efficiency of implementing informal and/or formal water markets at sub-watershed to basin scale.
  • Optimization of resource rotational practices for water conservation.

Water Conservation Project Planning

  • Scenario development and analysis for resource conservation projects such as reservoir construction and expansion, and irrigation infrastructure updates.

Capabilities

HydroScape Analytics will gather and compile hydrologic and resource use data into one web based platform. Statistical and query tools expedite answers for your spatial and temporal scope, allowing for better decision making and less searching.

Why you should partner with HydroScape

At HydroScape Analytics, we prioritize partnerships to develop top mission-focused solutions. We integrate our unique expertise and capabilities with those of our partners to deliver comprehensive solutions to complex water resource challenges.

Recent Projects

Clear Creek Watershed, WY

The Clear Creek watershed provides water to intensive irrigation and the city of Buffalo. Using a Decision Support System which leverages a biophysical-allocation model coupled with a hydrologic model, we determined tradeoffs between management decisions to increase water supply for future population growth.

Popo Agie Watershed, WY

During normal to dry water years the vibrant Middle Popo Agie river, which flows through the town of Lander, is depleted due to numerous upstream diversions. Water quality of the river degrades and fish are not able to propagate through the system. We developed a web-based decision support system to assist watershed managers in navigating decisions pertaining to irrigation efficiency updates and water markets to increase instream flows.

Bighorn Basin, WY

We conducted a study asking the question, “How does current water law impact streamflow dynamics in the Bighorn Basin, WY & MT”. We integrated a water right spatial dataset into a coupled allocation-hydrologic model, exploring the effects of resource distribution and consumption under standard efficiencies. Our study brought insights to both basin hydrologic dynamics under current resource allocation and leveraging western water law as management tool for water conservation.
